Senator Girão condemns PF action against Marcos do Val

Senator Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE) went to the Senate tribune this Friday morning (16) to condemn the way in which the Federal Police (PF) operation was carried out, authorized by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court. (STF), against Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES) throughout the afternoon and evening of the previous day. He demanded a reaction from the House command to the episode in defense of the constitutional inviolability of parliamentary mandates and also warned of the risk that, “if another inaction is confirmed in the face of abuses by the STF”, the negative judgment of society in in relation to Congress, especially the Senate.

“After the numerous invasions of jurisdiction by the Judiciary over the Legislature, yesterday we witnessed a physical invasion, entering a senator’s office. Without judging the merits or not of the operation, whether or not there were excesses by the parliamentarian, what happened was more a breach of what provides for articles of the Constitution, ”he said.

Girão questioned the second retention of the same cell phone from Do Val, after a previous testimony to the PF, the absence of a formal request to the Senate to proceed with the operation and the overthrow of his colleague’s social networks. He pointed out that he would make the same demonstration in favor of the prerogative of any congressman, even left-wing opponents, as it is something that puts freedom of expression at risk.

“We are facing a true constitutional chaos and we are watching from the box the process towards a full dictatorship”, he protested. For him, the only chance of reversing the threats to democracy lies in the peaceful, democratic and orderly demonstration of the population, although he agrees that many are afraid to express themselves in the face of censorship and arrests of politicians, businessmen, religious people and ordinary citizens.
