The bill that amends the Criminal Procedure Code to regulate imprisonment after second-instance conviction (PLS 166/2018) may be discussed again in the Senate plenary. The board of directors of the house unarchived the proposal this Tuesday (14) after a request from Senator Sergio Moro (União Brasil-PR) received the signature of 27 parliamentarians.

The proposal, which had been filed at the end of the last legislature, determines that the prison can be executed from the second degree conviction in a single instance or appeal. The project has already passed through the Commission for the Constitution of Justice (CCJ) in December 2019, and was awaiting inclusion in the Agenda to be discussed in plenary.

“We have a greater challenge, which is to take the bill to the plenary and have it approved. But it is necessary to study the best political moment for this. This agenda is a complaint from society”, says the senator.

There is still no forecast for the bill to be included in the Senate agenda.
