Minister Morgana de Almeida Richa will deliver the master class of the Seminar “Safe Work: Fundamental Right”

Manaus (AM) – Minister Morgana de Almeida Richa, of the Superior Labor Court (TST), will give the master class of the Seminar “Safe Work: Fundamental Right” that will be held in the auditorium of the Manaus Labor Forum on the next 14th of July.

Organized by the Regional Labor Court of the 11th Region (AM/RR), through the Seguro Trabalho Program, in partnership with the Public Ministry of Labor (MPT) and the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE), the legal event has as its guiding principle an invitation to reflect on safe and healthy work as a fundamental right of all workers.

The initiative also has the support of the TRT-11 Judicial School (Ejud11), the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam), the State University of Amazonas (UEA), the Federal Institute of Education of Amazonas (Ifam), from the Lutheran University of Brazil (Ulbra), Nilton Lins University and the University Center of Higher Education of Amazonas (Ciesa). The event is aimed at judges, civil servants, legal operators, students and the general public with an interest in the subject.

Free registrations are available at Sympla with a 3-hour certificate. Register here.

Schedule

Activities will take place from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. The president of TRT-11, judge Audaliphal Hildebrando da Silva will open the ceremony and the program will begin with a lecture by labor inspector Simone Santana Belchior, with the theme “The role of labor inspection in promoting safe work”.

Next, Labor attorneys Gabriela Menezes Zacarali and Joali Ingracia Santos de Oliveira will present the theme “Epidemiological surveillance and prevention of accidents at work: new technological perspectives and the use of the Smartlab tool”. Judge Sandro Nahmias Melo, holder of the Labor Court of Presidente Figueiredo (AM), will give the third lecture of the day with the theme “Digital Burnout”.

Next, there will be the presentation of Barco-Escola, a partnership between TRT-11 and the startup Tree Earth, whose launch took place on June 26th. The president of TRT-11 will present the rendering of accounts for the first 150 days of his term. At 11 am, Minister Morgana de Almeida Richa will close the program with the master class.

worrying reality

TRT-11 had an 11% increase in the number of actions on work accidents and occupational diseases between 2021 and 2022, according to a survey carried out by the Coordination of Procedural Systems (CSP). In 2022, the states of Amazonas and Roraima jointly registered the filing of 2,199 actions on the subject, while in the previous year there were 1,992 new actions. In the first three months of 2023 alone, 601 processes related to the safety and health of workers were initiated.

These numbers are a sample of a much larger total of cases and indicate that reality is worrying. Not every worker who has an accident or who develops an occupational disease initiates a labor lawsuit. Data from Smartlab – Promotion of Decent Work (www.smartlab.br.org), a tool developed by the MPT and the International Labor Organization (ILO), show that Manaus recorded 65,500 accidents at work between 2012 and 2022.
