The National Front of Mayors took a stand against the tax reform that is being processed in Congress and that has the support of the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
In a statement released late Tuesday afternoon (4), the entity, which claims to represent cities with 60% of Brazil’s population, complains that the text brings uncertainties and removes autonomy from municipalities.
“The text that advances in the Chamber brings uncertainties for the municipalities and for the citizen. The word “may”, for example, appears 26 times in the proposal, which reinforces the lack of clarity about the model. the services sector, penalizing precisely the biggest generators of jobs”, says the note.
The entity also claims that it is in favor of a reform that simplifies taxation, but complains that the proposal being discussed in the Chamber would withdraw funds from the cities.
“For this reason, the National Front of Mayors is against voting on the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution 45/2019 at this time, without dialogue with this representative entity”, says the note.
