A continental country like Brazil offers travel options for different tourist profiles. What is most successful, however, seems to be the beach cities, especially in the northeast. In a survey carried out by Airbnb, a short-term property rental company, seven of the ten cities most sought after by Brazilian tourists are in the region.

Based on research carried out in the period between January 1, 2023 and September 30 of the same year, for trips throughout 2024, Fortaleza, capital of Ceará, came in first place. In addition to attracting visitors with its beaches, dunes and cliffs, the city also offers cultural tours such as the state’s Pinacoteca.

Next, the capital of Bahia, Salvador, appears as a highly desired destination for next year. The city attracts visitors with the architecture of Pelourinho and the cultural hustle and bustle of the Rio Vermelho neighborhood, in addition to its famous Carnival.

Third place in the survey deviates from the profile of the first two positions. The city of Gramado does not have beaches, nor is it known for high temperatures. About 100 km from Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande do Sul, the destination attracts tourists mainly during events such as Natal Luz and Easter, as well as those interested in local cuisine.

Among the other cities most sought after by Brazilians are São José da Coroa Grande, in Pernambuco, Maceió and Maragogi, in Alagoas, and João Pessoa, in Paraíba. Next appear the only two destinations in the southeast, Barretos, in the interior of São Paulo, and Mangaratiba, in Rio de Janeiro. Tenth place went to Tamandaré, in Pernambuco.
