Secretary says book can be redistributed to EJA – 03/21/2024 – Panel

In Paraná, the Department of Education has not yet decided on the fate of the book O Avesso da Pele, removed from high schools at the beginning of the month.

But the department’s secretary, Roni Miranda, told the Panel this Wednesday (20) that one of the possibilities is for the work of writer Jeferson Tenório to be redistributed to EJA (Youth and Adult Education) students, who are over 18 years old.

“First we are carrying out a pedagogical assessment, which should be completed next week. But there is now a possibility that we can forward it to schools with EJA. There is a tendency towards this path. We are just waiting for the analysis to be completed by the pedagogical team”, said Roni, shortly after the event that marked Paraná’s accession to the federal Pé-de-Meia program, aimed at high school.

He said that there are around 700 copies of the book in Paraná.

“I read the book. It is good, it is of quality. However, pages 29 and 30 contain obscene, vulgar, foul language. And the school has to do a job of guiding it. For example: if you are going to watch a film today, has an age rating. If this book were turned into a film, it would probably be a film rated for over 18 years”, explained the secretary.

Miranda also said that the book was removed after complaints from parents of students. “Today we have a more connected society and, when the controversy came out on social media, they [os pais] They went to see if the book was available in schools”, he commented.

Asked about the fact that the book was included in the catalog available for high school after analysis by the Ministry of Education, the secretary stated that he “respects the decision, but not everything we agree with”.

In Curitiba for the event linked to Pé-de-Meia, the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, told the Panel that the “State has autonomy” and recalled that the MEC catalog that included the book was also prepared by the previous administration, in the year 2021.
