Secretary leaves Nunes administration, and Republicans may break – 05/29/2023 – Panel

Municipal Secretary of Housing, João Farias formalized his departure from the City Hall of São Paulo this Monday (29), in a meeting with Ricardo Nunes. As revealed by the Panel, Farias had already advised the mayor of his decision on Friday (26).

Former secretary general of the Republicans in São Paulo, Farias is one of the main leaders of the party in São Paulo, which is now discussing the possibility of leaving Nunes’ administration. For the 2024 election, the alternatives at the moment would be to support Ricardo Salles (PL) or launch his own name.

Nunes’ relationship with União Brasil is also experiencing turbulence. The mayor, Milton Leite, chief of the Union, has told allies that Nunes will fail to comply with an agreement he closed with him in 2020 that he would appoint the next councilor of the Municipal Court of Auditors, with the retirement of Maurício Faria.

The emedebista has sent a message in the opposite direction, that there was never this commitment and that he will indicate a name of his choice. The favorite is Marcela Arruda, current Secretary of Management.

Currently, without Republicans and the Union, Nunes’ allies project the support of MDB, PSD, PP.

As the column revealed, Farias and the CEO of Cohab, João Cury, and the Secretary of Government, Edson Aparecido, have been at odds over a yet-to-be-published decree for the expropriation of an area and the construction of a housing project in Cidade Tiradentes, east zone of São Paulo.

Internally, Farias has said that the decree would open the door for a specific company to maintain its participation in the Pode Entra housing program. Without the decree, the company would be disqualified. He has said that the decree would undermine the fairness of the process by harming the equal conditions of competition.

The housing area is considered strategic for Nunes, who is betting on building houses to boost his chances of re-election next year.
