“I will come back stronger,” Neymar wrote on his Instagram.

Neymar was injured on February 19 in the match against Lille, for the French Championship, and had a sprain in his right ankle detected in tests. The 31-year-old had an MRI that ruled out a fracture.

The injury happened after a move in which André, from Lille, arrived to mark Neymar, who ended up spraining his ankle due to the rival’s load from behind. The bid wasn’t hard, so much so that the opposing athlete didn’t get a yellow card.

New tests were carried out over the weeks and the PSG medical team recommended a ligament repair operation in order to avoid a high risk of recurrence – as it is not the first time that Neymar has injured this ankle. The club reports that all specialists consulted confirmed the need for surgery.

With a recovery period of 3 to 4 months, the Brazilian will miss the rest of the season, as the French Championship ends at the beginning of June and the Champions League final is scheduled for the 10th of the same month.
