The Attorney General of São Paulo, Mario Sarrubbo, was approached by the future Minister of Justice, Ricardo Lewandowski, to take over the National Public Security Secretariat of the Lula (PT) government.

After conversation between them in recent days, the head of the São Paulo Public Ministry is negotiating details for his departure from his current post, but has already indicated that he should accept the proposal to join Lewandowski’s team.

Lewandowski’s preference for Sarrubbo’s name was reported by G1. A Sheet found that the São Paulo Attorney General told people close to him that he must accept, but he intends to first define the conditions for his departure from his current position, whose mandate ends in April, and await an official announcement from the minister.

Sarrubbo has been Attorney General of Justice since 2020 and a member of the MP-SP since 1989. He has a master’s degree in law from PUC-SP and a degree in law from Mackenzie.

The area of security will be one of the most delicate for the work of the future Minister of Justice, who is expected to enter the government on February 1st, pressured by the population’s negative assessment of this area and by programs that have made little progress.

The pressure on Lewandowski should increase even more because he opposed the dismemberment of Justice and the re-creation of the Ministry of Public Security — a promise made by Lula during the election period.

After being announced by Lula, Lewandowski has pointed out that this area of public security will be his biggest challenge at the head of the ministry.
