Federal deputy Sâmia Bomfim (PSOL-SP) asked the court to have access to the investigation into the death of her brother, Diego Ralf Bomfim, last week in Rio de Janeiro. The parliamentarian stated that the request is for her to follow the lines of investigation that are being adopted to solve the crime – one of the hypotheses is that the doctor was mistaken for a supposed militia member.

“Our family, through our lawyers, as authorized by Brazilian law, requested access to data from the investigation into Diego’s murder so that we can have knowledge of the lines of investigation, data and possible evidence,” he said on social media this Sunday (8).

Diego was buried on Saturday afternoon (7) in the city of Presidente Prudente (SP). The deputy said that she will work in Congress to combat violence promoted by a “very deep and structured parallel power in the country”.

Diego and two other doctors, Perseu Ribeiro de Almeida and Marcos de Andrade Corsato, were in Rio to participate in an international medical congress, and were killed in the early hours of Thursday (5) in a kiosk on Barra da Tijuca beach, in front of to the hotel where they were staying.

Another professional colleague of theirs, Daniel Sonnewend Proença, survived the attack and remains hospitalized.

Hours later, at night, the police found four bodies believed to be those of alleged drug dealers suspected of being the perpetrators of the attack. The governor of Rio, Cláudio Castro (PL-RJ), stated that, even after the “pseudo drug court” condemned them, investigations would continue to contain what he called the “mafia” that operates in the city.

“Investigations continue. We won’t stop here. Just because bodies are found doesn’t mean investigations will stop. The investigations will be expanded and will continue. We will not go back even one millimeter towards these mafias,” she said.

The executive secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Ricardo Cappelli, stated that the government will reinforce public security in Rio de Janeiro with the resumption of the Support Mission, a task force that was used shortly before major sporting games, such as the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. On that occasion, the action led to the creation of the UPPs, the Pacification Police Units.
