The magazine Fórum & Negócios, one of the publications of Doria Editora, which belongs to the former governor of São Paulo João Doria, published an edition in June in which it gave special attention to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), ministers and other members of the PT government.
After years of harsh criticism of Lula and the PT, Doria began making moves to try to get closer to him in recent months.
The former governor apologized for statements he made five years ago, when he said that the decision to arrest Lula washed “the souls of good Brazilians.” Last Tuesday (3), he said he saw in the PT member the ability to “pacify Brazil”.
In May, Lula ordered that members of his government no longer participate in Lide group events, precisely because of the criticism he suffered from the former governor in the past.
The following month, the annual edition of Fórum & Negócios magazine highlighted representatives of the Lula government. Aloizio Mercadante, president of BNDES, Jean Paul Prates, president of Petrobras, Camilo Santana, minister of Education, Nísia Trindade, of Health, and Anielle Franco, of Racial Equality, appear in photos and public statements, as does the president himself.
Silvio Almeida, from Human Rights, is portrayed in two photos, one of them with Lula, and an interview.
Comparatively, the previous edition of Fórum & Negócios, from 2022, highlighted practically only businesspeople — the exception was Cláudio Castro (PL), governor of Rio de Janeiro.
In a note, Grupo Doria states that the magazine Fórum & Negócios “portrays themes from Brazil, on an economic and political level”, and, therefore, “there is nothing surprising when, in its pages, acts or characters from the current government”.
“The Doria Group’s magazines are non-partisan and multisectoral”, he concludes.
