Paulo Alcoforado’s questioning for a vacancy on the board of Ancine (Agência Nacional do Cinema) should take place in the first half of August at the Senate’s Education and Culture Commission —the date, however, has not yet been set.
He will be the first name appointed by the Lula government (PT) in this third term of the PT to compose the agency’s board. Currently, the Ancine collegiate is made up of three nominees in the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government: Alex Braga Muniz, CEO, Vinicius Clay Araujo Gomes and Tiago Mafra dos Santos.
According to senator Humberto Costa (PT-PE), rapporteur for the nomination, there is a “strong demand” from the Ministry of Culture to speed up the process. “The ministry wants to recompose Ancine. By mid-August it will already have voted [a indicação]including on the Senate floor,” he told the Panel.
Alcoforado is recommended by the Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes. He was director of Ancine between May 2009 and December 2010, in addition to being the agency’s secretary for funding policies.
