Former football player Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, Ronaldinho Gaúcho, denied participation in financial pyramids with cryptocurrencies in the CPI that investigates the matter in the Chamber of Deputies. He participated this Thursday (31) in a commission session.

He was summoned because of the performance of the company 18k Ronaldinho, which promised returns of up to 400% in less than a year. According to the former athlete, the company improperly used his image. In this way, he declared himself a victim of the company.

The returns, well above the market, were not realized in practice, and the case was reported to the Public Ministry of São Paulo, which is also investigating the case and has already stated that it did not find records of Ronaldinho as a partner in the business.

Gaúcho said that he had a contract with the company 18k Watches to license a line of watches with his image, but that he did not authorize the use of the image for the sale of cryptocurrencies.

“It was never authorized for 18k Ronaldinho to use my name and my image or nickname in the corporate name of the company. I was a victim”, he said.

During the session, images of the company that presented itself as a multilevel marketing company were shown. According to Ronaldinho, all the images in which he appeared were from the two photo shoots he carried out to promote the watches.

The former player also said that he even signed a contract with a subsidiary of 18k Watches focused on the marketing of watches in July 2019, but that this contract was terminated in October of the same year “without [nem] even be executed”.

Ronaldinho missed two sessions of the CPI before appearing this Thursday. The former player explained that the first time he had not been named in the squad, only his brother. In the second absence, he continued, he was unable to reach Brasilia because the Porto Alegre airport was closed due to a storm before his flight to the federal capital took off.
