Almost everything is ready to start another edition of the traditional Marcílio Dias World Cup. In its 59th year, the competition will bring together 64 teams in a dispute that will last, more or less, three months, at the Arena Turíbio Guimarães, also known as Arena da Praça Nossa Senhora da Conceição.
The works on the competition stage are almost ready and delivery is scheduled for September 16th. The site is receiving a new synthetic lawn, drainage, lighting, renovation of the fence, bleachers, locker rooms and cabin, totaling an investment of R$ 870,604.29 from the Municipal Treasury.
The Cup is the largest in amateur football in the state and is played in a public square. The year 2020 was the last time the competition was held and it could only be completed in early 2022, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Entries are now closed and teams have until September 6th to pay R$1,000 for the coordination of the competition. The amount collected will be used to pay the refereeing fees, purchase sports material, maintain the venue and award prizes, which will total R$30,000 (R$20,000 for the champion and R$10,000 for the runner-up), in addition to trophies and medals.
There will be three games a day, from Monday to Saturday, at night. The current champion of the competition is the selection of Mongolia, which will open the competition with the opponent to be confirmed.
