With offenses such as “traitor” and “sclerosed”, Senator Romário (PL-RJ) and former deputy Bebeto (PSD-RJ) exposed this Tuesday (9) the political breakup of the attacking duo of the world champion Brazilian team in 1994.

The background to the fight was the election for the Senate last year, when Romário tried to be re-elected without the support of Bebeto. The former deputy supported André Ceciliano (PT-RJ), former president of the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro.

During an interview on the podcast of sports announcer José Carlos Araújo, Garotinho, Romário defined Bebeto as a “traitor”.

“He betrayed me in politics. [de galho]. There are things in life that I take forever. In and out of politics. When it’s a guy you lived with, lived with and have a friendship relationship with, it’s sad. I didn’t fight with Bebeto. He just cheated on me, that’s all. We didn’t even fight. We didn’t even have that chance. He just cheated on me. Nothing more. Unfortunately, that’s how it is,” said the senator.

In an interview with UOL, the former deputy called his former strike partner sclerotic and selfish.

“Who is he to call me a traitor? Romário is getting old and I think he’s getting sclerotic, talking a lot of nonsense. I’ve had an honest career in football and politics, I’ve never been involved in controversies. I can’t say the same about him, that he is selfish, he always thought only of himself”, said the former congressman.

According to Bebeto, the breakup was caused by Romário when he switched from Podemos to PL, in April 2021. The former deputy claims that he was not informed of the decision.

“Romário called me to Podemos and I went. But he left without telling anyone, he didn’t tell me. I found out that he had gone to the PL through the press, he didn’t speak to me. he left ‘sniffly’. Why didn’t he talk to me?”, he completed.

Despite the inconvenience, Bebeto did not avoid recording an interview last year for the series about the senator, to be shown on HBO.

Bebeto joined the PSD at the invitation of the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD), and supported Ceciliano, with whom he maintained a good political relationship in the Assembly. The former number 7 national team failed to be elected to the Chamber of Deputies.
