The city of Rio de Janeiro will host the last shooting competition for the 2024 Paris Olympics, organized by the International Federation. The competition with rifle and pistol events will take place from April 11 to 19, at the Centro Militar de Tiro Esportivo (CMTE), in Deodoro, in the west zone of the capital of Rio de Janeiro, where the Rio 2016 disputes took place – at the time the São Paulo Philip Wu made history by winning silver in the 10-meter air pistol, after a 96-year drought.
Before the Pre-Olympics, in September this year, the CMTE will host the ISSF South American Cup (rifle and pistol disputes).
“The holding of the last selective [ISSF Final Qualification Tournament Rifle / Pistol 2024] it will be an excellent opportunity for the sports shooting community to closely follow the best athletes in Brazil and the world. It is another great achievement for our modality and Brazilian sport”, celebrated Jodson Edington, president of CBTE, when confirming on Wednesday (3) the coming of the tryouts to Brazil.
In December the Brazilian Philippe Chateaubrian secured an individual spot for the Games, by winning the air pistol dispute (10 meters) of the Americas Championship, in Lima (Peru). Medalist Felipe Wu is also looking to qualify for Paris
Shooting spots began to be distributed in competitions that began on August 14 of last year and will run until June 9, 2024. Each country will be entitled to compete with 24 athletes at the Games, with a maximum limit of two per event.
