Responsible for exhibition canceled by Caixa was nominated for promotion at the bank

The national superintendent of events at Caixa Econômica Federal, Ana Luiza Fraga, was appointed to the position of director of Governance, Strategy and Marketing at the state bank. She was responsible for authorizing the exhibition “O Grito”, canceled for presenting works with “political bias” such as the one shown by the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), senator Damares Alves (Republicanos-DF) and former minister Paulo Guedes in a trash can covered with the Brazilian flag.

Ana Luiza’s name appears in the extract from Caixa’s internal selection process for the position, revealed this Thursday (26) by Power 360. A People’s Gazette asked the bank about the selection and is awaiting feedback.

According to the investigation, the superintendent is a career employee of Caixa and the promotion to the board still needs to be approved by the Board of Directors, which does not yet have a scheduled date. Ana Luiza authorized the payment of R$250,000 for the exhibition, which began last week, but was canceled after the case came to light.

Ana Luiza’s promotion to the board may be suspended, as President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) may direct more positions at the state bank to those appointed by Centrão – as he did with the presidency. On Wednesday (25), Lula fired Rita Serrano to accommodate economist Carlos Antônio Vieira Fernandes, appointed by Lira to the position.

The appointment is part of the government’s negotiation with Centrão to expand the base in the Chamber of Deputies and facilitate voting on projects considered important, mainly economic measures. There is an expectation that all 12 directors and vice-presidencies of Caixa will be divided between parties in the bloc.

“Considering that a manifestation with a political bias was identified in the work in question, which violates the program guidelines, Caixa decided to suspend the aforementioned exhibition. The bank’s management also informs that it has determined that internal bodies are responsible,” Caixa said in a note about the cancellation of the exhibition.

The works of artist Marília Scarabello were commissioned by anthropologist Iara Machado, who presented the exhibition project to the Caixa Cultural Space Occupation Program, selected by Minister Margareth Menezes, of Culture, and Rita Serrano.
