The Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, said this Monday (20) that the Ministry reached the goal of re-registering more than 80% of private weapons in the country. Of a total of 762,365 weapons registered in the Military Weapons Management System (Sigma), maintained by the Army, 613,834 have been re-registered by the Federal Police so far. The number represents 81% of the total. The deadline ends on April 3 and, according to Dino, it will not be extended.

“There will be no effect of confiscating weapons that are re-registered, but yes, those that are not re-registered. In April, when we have the conclusion, weapons that are not re-registered will be subject to administrative seizure and referral to the PF itself so that it can initiate the competent police investigations regarding these weapons”, explained the minister, during a press conference, in Brasília .

Permitted weapons can be registered electronically on the PF website. On the other hand, owners of restricted-use weapons will have to register electronically and, later, present the equipment by prior appointment at Federal Police stations, bearing proof of registration in the Army’s Military Weapons Management System (Sigma).

The current re-registration, which began in February, is being carried out by the PF and will condense all information on civilian weapons in Sinarm from now on. This was a determination by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who suspended, by means of a decree, registrations for the acquisition and transfer of weapons and ammunition for restricted use by CACs.
