The judge of the Regional Electoral Court of Paraná (TRE-PR) Luciano Carrasco Falavinha Souza, responsible for reporting on the process that calls for the impeachment of senator Sergio Moro (União-PR) for abuse of economic power in the 2022 electoral campaign, asked the inclusion of the judgment of the case in the Court’s agenda on the “earliest possible date”according to the order published this Tuesday afternoon (30).

In the document, he presents the arguments of the authors of the request, the Liberal Party (PL) and the Federation formed by PT-PV-PCdoBand also the points presented by the defense of the senator and substitutes, in addition to recalling the entire course of the process, marked by exchanges of rapporteurs last year.

The TRE-PR’s musical chairs will also be repeated this January, which could even make the judgment of Sergio Moro’s case unfeasible, which requires seven judges, the maximum quorum, to enter the Court’s agenda.

Last week, the two-year term of the holder of the jurist position, Thiago Paiva dos Santos, was ended, which left the TRE-PR plenary incomplete three days later due to the end of the term of the substitute judges José Rodrigo Sade and Roberto Aurichio Junior.

The two are competing for the post of holder of one of the two seats in the class of jurists at TRE-PR, together with Graciane Aparecida Lemos, who has also held a seat on the Paraná court. Last week, the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), minister Alexandre de Moraes, determined the urgency for publishing a notice and opening the deadline for challenging names, which expired on Monday (29).

This Tuesday (30), the approval of the triple list of nominees by the Court of Justice of Paraná (TJ-PR) entered the agenda of the TSE’s first session of the year, which will be held on Thursday (1st). Once approved, the triple list goes on to choose and appoint the new electoral judge of Paraná by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

The TRE-PR presidency chair will also have a new occupant from Thursday. Judges Wellington Emanuel Coimbra de Moura and Fernando Wolff Bodziak step down as president and vice president, respectively, this Wednesday (31). Alongside his deputy, Luiz Osório Moraes Panza, judge Sigurd Roberto Bengtsson assumes the presidency of TRE-PR and will be responsible for conducting Sergio Moro’s trial.

If he is sentenced to loss of office and ineligibility by the Court in Paraná, the former Lava Jato judge will remain in the senator’s chair at least until the case is considered in a second instance, in this case, the TSE in Brasília.
