Racism against Vinicius Junior: Attitude 10, racism 0

Again insulted and attacked by fans of opposing teams in Real Madrid games in Europe, the Brazilian player Vinicius Junior reacted correctly and vehemently against racism.

Paradox often haunts democratic systems.

To what extent can intolerance be tolerated, be liberal with those who intend to demolish freedom or ensure the rights of those who do not respect other human beings, regardless of color, creed or political tendency?

In practically all countries, there are acts of insults against players of African descent by some or many fans who are ready to applaud the black or mulatto player when they score goals for their favorite teams.

In the case of Vinicius Junior, he has been harassed in Spanish football for a long time.

He is a person with personality, who doesn’t take shit home and demands support from the directors of his club, the Spanish Federation, La Liga and the country’s authorities.

In the match on Sunday (21) he was attacked by his opponents, cursed and insulted by fans and, incredible as it may seem, he received a red card from the referee.

I always say and repeat that racism is the bad breath of the soul. It’s just past time to attack racism with all our energy and in every country on the planet.

From what has been observed so far, the punishments applied to verbal aggressors have failed to play a decisive, pedagogical or civilizing role.

Without effective energy from the authorities, it seems difficult to change the racist supporter’s mentality.

The repression adopted so far against a feeling, no matter how odious it may be, does not disarm it.

It is necessary to discourage, by law and by attitudes to combat racism, behaviors that manifest themselves explicitly.

A vigorous reaction from the government and sports authorities in Spain is imperative to extinguish this destructive resentment.
