Due to the fights during the match against Cruzeiro in the 2022 Series B, Grêmio was punished by the STJD and will make its debut in the Brazilian Championship against Santos, at the Alfredo Jaconi stadium, in Caxias do Sul. The match takes place this Sunday, at 6:30 pm, and closes the first round of the competition. The incident took place among the Grêmio fans themselves, who attacked each other with flag poles, punches and kicks in the stands during the 25th round of the second national division. The turmoil would have started because of an argument between participants of two organized supporters. Men competed for space to place a banner. After the argument, violence spread through the sector.

The game was stopped twice so that the Military Brigade could intervene. The match ended in a 2-2 draw. To end Série B at home and close to its fans, Tricolor made an agreement to fulfill part of the punishment in this year’s Brasileirão. In addition to the impossibility of hosting the first match of the national championship, the club was also fined R$ 100,000 and will not be able to use the North stand in two other Brasileirão games.
