PT youth protest against councilor who called colleague ‘young girl’ – 06/27/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

PT Youth protested against the leader of the acronym’s bench in the São Paulo City Council, Senival Moura, for having said that his party colleague Luna Zarattini was a “young girl” who “will still grow a lot”.

The episode took place in the final vote on the Strategic Master Plan (PDE) in São Paulo, on Monday (26), when the PT split.

“Regretfully […]councilor Luna Zarattini was belittled by a fellow party member”, says the text published on the PT Youth social networks, without mentioning Senival’s name.

And it goes on: “The councilwoman was publicly attacked for standing against the new Plan [Diretor], in a vote that the bench was released. It is very serious that criticism of a political position comes from disqualification due to generational and gender bias”.

Luna thanked for the support in a comment made on the post. “It is very bad that characteristics inherent to me, being a woman and being young, are attacked by political differences”, says the parliamentarian to the column.

When contacted, Senival says he made the comment as if he were “talking to a son”. “I admire her a lot, she is a young woman who will still grow and contribute a lot to the PT. It was in that sense, due to my experience and age.”

He further claims that, in his view, he was not disrespectful and that “this matter has nothing to do”.

In the final vote on the Master Plan, there was disagreement involving parliamentarians from the party. Jair Tatto even shouted at Senival when he asked the leader of the acronym in the House to read a note from the PT’s municipal directory in São Paulo, which guided a vote in favor of revising the PDE.

“I want the party’s note”, shouted Tatto, when Senival went to speak.

As Senival went to read the document on the lectern, Luna approached him. The parliamentarian stated that the party had not closed the poll and that she felt free to vote against the project. It was at that moment that Senival said: “Young girl, you will still grow a lot and build a lot”.

In addition to Luna, Hélio Rodrigues and João Ananias voted against the revision, while the other five members of the PT bench gave favorable votes.

In the opinion of the parliamentarians who voted against, the changes presented by the project’s rapporteur, Rodrigo Goulart (PSD), were not enough. They also say that the current text of the Master Plan represents a step backwards in relation to the current rules.

The other party councilors, on the other hand, have the opposite assessment and argue that the setbacks in relation to the first version of the substitute were satisfactory.

In the first vote on the revision of the Master Plan, the PT was divided. Four parliamentarians voted against and four voted in favour. At the time, they said it would be a strategy for the acronym to negotiate amendments and changes in the text.
