PT leaves Lindbergh out of the January 8 CPI – 05/11/2023 – Politics

The PT decided to leave federal deputy Lindbergh Farias (RJ) out of the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) of January 8 and announced that he will be represented by parliamentarians Rogério Correia (MG), Rubens Pereira Jr. (MA) and Jandira Feghali (PC do B-RJ).

To reinforce the discourse that the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government is the most interested in the investigations into the attack on the three powers, PT leader in the Chamber of Deputies, Zeca Dirceu (PR), disclosed the names of the deputies of the block this Thursday (11).

“We are going to demonstrate that the 8th of January was a coup process and that the main boss was Bolsonaro. You can count on my commitment, firm and intransigent action in defense of our democracy. We will investigate”, declared Correia, who was the CPI’s rapporteur for Brumadinho, in 2019.

Lindbergh Farias was taken for granted by the committee and even organized a press conference, on the last 20th, to address the issue. But, according to reports, he ended up cut by decision of the bench leader for the criticism he made to the proposed new fiscal framework.

In an interview with Sheetin April, the deputy even compared the proposal presented by Minister Fernando Haddad (Finance) to the attempt at a demonic pact described in Guimarães Rosa’s novel “Grande Sertão: Veredas”.

Already Maranhão Rubens Pereira Jr. he is an ally of Minister Flávio Dino (Justice), one of the main targets of attacks by the opposition —in the government, Dino’s summons to the CPI is taken for granted. Rubens Jr. will also act as coordinator of the deputies’ bench in the commission.

“We will have extensive investigations to determine the responsibility of those who participated, promoted and idealized the attempted coup against the democratic rule of law. The Constitution will be respected. There will be no amnesty for coup leaders”, said Pereira Jr.

PT leader in the Senate, Fabiano Contarato (ES), told the Sheet that he and Senator Rogério Carvalho —one of the members of the so-called G7 in the Covid CPI, in 2021— will be starters. The leader of the government in Congress, Randolfe Rodrigues (Rede-AP), and Senator Augusta Brito (CE) will be substitutes.

Despite the new names, the CPI has lost strength in recent days, as shown by the Sheet, and still does not have a start date. In the Senate, members of the government base say that there is no rush to nominate members if not even the opposition did so in the Chamber of Deputies – in reference to parties like PP and Republicans.

Senator Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), chairman of the Senate Constitution and Justice Commission and considered one of the most influential parliamentarians in the House, expressed interest in participating in the mixed CPI and should be nominated by the party as a member.

Already the name of senator Soraya Thronicke (MS), who had proposed a CPI only for the Senate, is taken for granted for the second wave. The leader of the acronym in the Senate, Efraim Filho (PB), and Senator Sergio Moro (PR) are appointed to the two substitutes of the commission.

In the MDB, the most quoted are the leader of the party in the Senate, Eduardo Braga (AM), and the former president of the House Renan Calheiros (AL). In the Chamber, the party defined that the federal deputy Arthur Maia (BA) will be incumbent and Kim Kataguiri (SP) an alternate. Maia is even appointed by leaders of the House to chair the commission.

In the Senate, the opposition troop will be commanded by senators Magno Malta (PL-ES), Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE), Damares Alves (Republicanos-DF) and Esperidião Amin (PP-SC). Jorge Seif (PL-SC), former Bolsonaro Secretary of Fisheries, Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), Cleitinho (Republicanos-MG) and Luiz Carlos Heinze (PP-RS) will be substitutes.

Last week, the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), denied the opposition’s requests against Randolfe Rodrigues’ maneuver that strengthened the PT bloc in the CPI. With that, the PL ended up with two seats in the Senate instead of three.

Under reserve, parliamentarians evaluate that, with a powerless opposition and a government preoccupied with other battles in Congress, the CPI loses importance and may take time to be officially opened, in addition to having a chance of becoming innocuous.

In addition, they ponder behind the scenes that the government acted badly in the face of articulation by the CPI. In the beginning, the government was against the installation of the commission and acted to postpone it.

However, after a crisis triggered in the Executive after the disclosure of images of the internal circuit of the Planalto Palace on January 8 —which led to the resignation of the GSI (Institutional Security Office) minister, General Gonçalves Dias—, the government started to defend the collegiate installation.

The commission was also the subject of debate at a meeting on Wednesday (10) of the Forum of Progressive Parties, which brings together the presidents of the PT, PSB, PC do B, PV, Rede, PSOL and PDT. They defended the immediate installation of the mixed CPI.
