The senator and leader of the opposition in the Senate, Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), said this Wednesday (21) that the PT is “frightened” by the act called by former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo , scheduled for Sunday (25).

Marinho stated that “the PT is scared”, adding that “like other left-wing parties, it uses liberal democracy to come to power, and there it works to suffocate, embarrass and intimidate those who think differently. Exactly how Nazis and fascists behaved before, and how communists behave now.”

The statement was a direct response to the request made by the PT to the Court against the demonstration planned by Bolsonaro. The document presented on Monday (19) to the Public Electoral Ministry of São Paulo expresses the party’s concern that the act could trigger events similar to those that occurred on January 8, in Brasília.

In the request, the PT requests preventive measures and investigations into “possible crimes” that may be committed against the Democratic Rule of Law, as well as into advance electoral propaganda and irregular financing of acts.

The party also highlights that Bolsonaro stood out for criticizing the Brazilian electoral system, electronic voting machines and authorities during his public events.

Jair Bolsonaro called on his supporters to demonstrate on Avenida Paulista in defense of the democratic rule of law. According to the former president, the demonstration aims to defend himself against “all the accusations” he has faced in recent months.

Bolsonaro is the target of operation Tempus Veritatis, launched on February 8 with the execution of 33 search and seizure warrants, 4 preventive arrest warrants and 48 alternative measures against the former president and his supporters, on charges of an alleged coup attempt of State to keep him in the Presidency. He and other allies, former ministers and military personnel testify this Thursday (22) to the Federal Police.
