When commenting on President Lula’s (PT) partial veto of the project that ends the temporary release of prisoners on commemorative dates, the so-called “saidinhas”, the president of the Novo party, Eduardo Ribeiro, said that the veto “exposes the commitment to crime” and that “PT is a plague that needs to be fought every day”.

“Lula’s veto on the end of partying was predictable and only exposes his commitment to crime and banditry. PT is a plague that needs to be fought every day. Let’s overturn the veto and beat them in the elections”, wrote Ribeiro on his profile on the social network X, this Friday (12).

The project was approved by Congress last month. The “punctual veto” was announced this Thursday (11) by the government.

The Minister of Justice, Ricardo Lewandowski, stated that the veto is “specific” and will allow prisoners to leave the semi-open facility to visit their families “for humanitarian reasons”.

In reaction, deputies who are members of the Public Security Committee of the Chamber of Deputies said that the veto shows the government’s lack of commitment to Security.

When commenting on the case, Congressman Sanderson (PL-RS) said that the attitude is a “demonstration of the government’s weakness”. The opposition has already promised to overturn the veto.

For the presidential veto to be overturned by Congress, an absolute majority of federal deputies and senators is required, that is, 257 votes in the Chamber and 41 in the Senate.
