State deputy Maurici (PT) presented on Thursday (14) a substitute for the bill by governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) that creates the civic-military schools program in the state.

Instead of this type of educational institutions, the PT’s proposal creates the Battalion PM Socioeducational Program, to be implemented in existing Military Police Battalions and in new units.

The text provides that socio-educational activities will be defined by the Public Security Secretariat in conjunction with the Education Secretariat and the Battalion teams.

The Public Security Secretariat would be responsible for selecting the battalions that would participate in the program and for providing technical and financial support to the institutions that join. The battalion that joins the program will have at least one retired teacher to work on the initiative.

“If it is pertinent, as the government proposes, for the participation of military police officers in the school environment, it is much more reasonable to propose the participation of teachers in the São Paulo Military Police units. Education is too important a dimension in life and society to be delivered to professionals from areas other than education”, says Maurici.

According to the proposal sent by governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) to Alesp (Legislative Assembly of São Paulo), the civic-military school would be implemented in units with low performance in the Ideb assessment (Basic Education Development Index) and located in regions considered as socially vulnerable.
