PT deputy wants to criminalize Nazism and fascism, but ignores communism

Federal deputy Rubens Otoni (PT-GO) presented a bill to make it a crime to manufacture, market, distribute or convey symbols, emblems, ornaments, badges or advertisements that use the swastika cross or any other references to Nazism or Fascism. The text amends the Racism Law and will be sent for analysis by the permanent committees of the Chamber.
However, the deputy does not mention communism in his project, a regime that caused millions of deaths. Some countries even prohibit the use of communist symbols and demonstrations such as Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Indonesia and Romania.
Currently, the law already provides for a penalty of 2 to 5 years of imprisonment and a fine for references to Nazism, but is limited to the use of the swastika, without punishing other Nazi symbols, such as the number 88, used by European neo-Nazi movements to honor Adolf Hitler. (representing the repetition of the eighth letter of the alphabet – ‘HH’, from ‘Heil Hitler!’), informed Agência Câmara de Notícias.
The deputy intends to include the mention of fascism in the current rule. “In order to resolve any doubts, the project intends to make the use of any symbols, emblems, ornaments, badges or propaganda that are intended for the propagation of Nazism a crime”, says Otoni in the justification. “It also includes the mention of fascism, a doctrine that is clearly offensive to freedom and that must be fought in a Democratic State of Law”, he added.
