PT decides to challenge Sgarbossa’s affiliation, who assumes mandate

The Executive Board of the Workers’ Party (PT) communicated, this Tuesday (31), that it accepted the request to contest the affiliation of former councilor Marcelo Sgarbossa to the party, made by former councilor Adeli Sell and Everton Gimenis.

Sgarbossa and Sell are both substitute councilors for the Porto Alegre Chamber, disputing one of the vacancies opened by the departure of councilors Leonel Radde and Laura Sito. According to the replacement list, one of the vacancies will be occupied by Comasseto Engineer, but the other is still undefined.

The impasse began after Sgarbossa, who is ahead of Sell in the number of votes, switched from the PT to the PV in February last year and, now, returns to the PT again to take over the seat. The movement generated a response from Sell, who forwarded a document to the party asking for the challenge of Sgarbossa’s affiliation, which was finally accepted by the party.

Even so, who takes over the council in the House continues to be Sgarbossa, even without a party. The tendency is for the PT to legally claim the seat for the party. According to information released on PT social networks, the return of the former councilor was not accepted because the change of party was considered an act of party infidelity. Already on his social networks, Sgarbossa states that the trip to the PV was the result of an agreement made with the PT in the context of the 2022 elections.
