PSOL calls Peru a dictatorship and asks Brazil to break the link – 01/30/2023 – Panel

The National Executive of the PSOL released a note on Friday (27) about the political situation in Peru in which it calls President Dina Boluarte a “dictator” and asks Brazil to break off relations with her government.
Boluarte took over in December last year, after the arrest of former president Pedro Castillo, of whom he was deputy. Castillo was accused of attempting a coup d’état and deposed by Congress.
Since then, the Andean country has been experiencing a spiral of turmoil, with pro-Castillo protesters demanding Boluarte’s resignation, the release of the former president and the anticipation of presidential elections. There have already been about 60 deaths.
“The PSOL stands in solidarity with the Peruvian people and joins the international calls for an end to repression and freedom for political prisoners. Enough of the massacres, no more dead”, says the party, which has cadres integrating the Lula (PT) government.
The caption also says that it would be necessary “the rupture of relations with the dictatorship of Boluarte, as a gesture for all the peoples of the continent”.
PSOL’s tone differs from the milder stance adopted by PT, a more centrist left-wing party. In a statement last week, the party limited itself to expressing concern about the situation in Peru and asking for dialogue between the parties.
