OAB wants Lula’s lawyer’s aggressor to pay R$ 150 thousand – 01/30/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) will file a criminal complaint with the court against businessman Luiz Carlos Basseto Júnior, indicted for attacking Lula’s lawyer (PT), Cristiano Zanin Martins at Brasília airport. He was identified by the Federal Police and the Civil Police of the Federal District as the author of the offenses.

They are part of the working group created by the Federal Council of the entity to hold civil, criminal and administratively responsible individuals who offend, assault or discriminate against lawyers due to their professional performance.

“The Judiciary will hardly be faced with such a serious case of offenses to honor, threat and incitement to crime as the one portrayed in the present complaint”, say the members of the OAB in the action. “The context in which the facts took place reveals not only the extreme incivility, but the hatred that befell certain people who, arrogantly, set themselves up as judges of republican morals”, they also say.

According to the OAB, the episode “is the expression of the most shameless arrogance, cowardice and arrogance”, leading Zanin to be “vilified in his honor”.

The entity lists 14 offenses that were uttered by the businessman against Lula’s lawyer, such as “bandit”, “corrupt”, “naughty” and “tramp”, and asks that he be condemned to pay compensation of R$ 150 thousand for damages morals.

“His surprise and vulnerability [Zanin]not knowing if there were other people there in conjunction with the defendant [Basseto Júnior]brought him not only the suffering inherent to the criminal type, but to it was added the fear and the unpleasant feeling of being able to be on the verge of suffering attacks of another nature”, says the OAB in the piece that will be presented to Justice.

For lawyers, businessman Luiz Carlos Basseto Júnior must answer for the commission of crimes of injury and defamation – which would have been aggravated by being transmitted to “thousands of people” after the author shared scenes of the attack on his social networks.
