The Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) government decided to postpone the application of Provão Paulista, a new serial entrance exam for universities in the state of São Paulo, due to the strike of subway, railway and Sabesp employees scheduled for Tuesday (28).

Enrolled in the 3rd year of high school who would take the test on the 28th and 29th. Now, they will participate on the 29th and 30th of November. Students in the 1st and 2nd grades, with tests originally scheduled for November 30th and December 1st, had their exams transferred to December 1st and 4th.

Although the transport strike affects the capital and the metropolitan region, the change in the dates of Provão Paulista applies to all 645 municipalities in the state.

Provão, in its first edition, is a kind of “state Enem” and will make 15,369 places available for higher education courses in 2024 at the five partner institutions: USP (University of São Paulo), Unesp (Universidade Estadual Paulista), Unicamp (Universidade Estadual de Campinas), Fatecs (Faculties of Technology of the State of São Paulo) and Univesp (Virtual University of the State of São Paulo).

According to the government of São Paulo, 1.2 million students are registered for the tests.

The Department of Education, led by Renato Feder, says it regrets the decision, but that the solution found “aims not to harm students in the state network, who mostly depend on public transport”.

“All students enrolled in Provão Paulista, including those coming from other municipalities and states to the capital, must follow the new dates stipulated for taking the tests”, explains the department, in a note.
