Priority is subject to the service profile of the respective school, as well as the availability of places in line with their physical capacity

Manaus (AM) – To facilitate and optimize the relationship between student, school, parents and guardians, state deputy Roberto Cidade (UB), president of the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), presented and had Bill No. 674/2023 approved by the Plenary Ruy Araújo. The matter guarantees children and/or minors under the custody of teachers or employees of schools in the state public education network, the priority of enrollment in the educational unit where their legal guardian is assigned. Approved in the last plenary session of 2023, on 12/14, the PL awaits government sanction.

“Our proposal aims to provide greater harmony between the professional and family responsibilities of parents and guardians, while seeking to strengthen the educational environment. Greater proximity between the school and the parent or guardian’s workplace has the potential to simplify and improve everyone’s lives, especially students,”

defended the parliamentarian.

According to the proposal, priority is subject to the service profile of the respective school, as well as the availability of places in line with their physical capacity. The exception to the requirement is restricted to teaching units that carry out a specific selection process for admission.

By ensuring that the student has the opportunity to attend the same educational institution where the parent or guardian works, several advantages are expected, including: reduced travel time; strengthening family ties, facilitating participation in school events and monitoring the student’s educational development; in addition to increasing attendance and, with this, reducing school dropout rates.

“We have many problems left by the pandemic and school dropout and low performance are some of them. Unfortunately, we have many children and teenagers who have difficulty learning, reading, writing and doing basic arithmetic. Our intention is also to ensure that this facility results in greater proximity, more participation and, consequently, educational improvement for the student. It is important that we create mechanisms for this to happen and our law has this objective”,

finished.
