Lula’s visit in AM

This visit should take place in March, in the municipality of Parintins, 369 kilometers from Manaus.

Manaus (AM) – Still without a defined date, Senator Omar Aziz (PSD) said, in an interview with Em Tempo, this Tuesday (17), that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) intends to visit Amazonas. This visit should take place in March, in the municipality of Parintins, 369 kilometers from Manaus.

Senator Omar Aziz informed Em Tempo that he spoke with President Lula by telephone, last Saturday morning (13), and asked when he would visit Amazonas. In response, Lula said he would come at the next big event in the state.

To Em Tempo, Aziz stressed that he is articulating Lula’s visit to the state, and that possibly the president should honor, in March, the inauguration of the electric power transmission substation, the Tucuruí Line, in the municipality of Parintins.

“Mayor Bi Garcia said that in March he will inaugurate the Tucuruí Line. So today I called the Minister of Mines and Energy and said that the president wants to come here in March”,

said the senator.

On January 26, Omar Aziz will have a next conversation, in Brasília, with the president to define Lula’s visit to the Amazon.

“Him [Lula] said he wanted to come here [no Amazonas]. The probability of it coming [em março] it is very big if no other big event happens”.

This possible visit will bring up the discussions about the Free Trade Zone and the Industrial Pole of Manaus (PIM), most negatively affected by the current decisions about the end of the IPI, a flag raised by Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), vice-president and Minister of Planning .

“Tax reform is central. It can make the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grow, it can bring economic efficiency, simplifying the tax issue and I understand that it is essential, including for the industry”,

said Geraldo at a meeting at the headquarters of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp).

The vice president also showed interest in a visit to Amazonas, confirming in an interview that he is already talking to local political leaders.

“I recognize the importance of the Manaus Free Trade Zone and I will reinforce, alongside Deputy Serafim Corrêa, the importance of the debate on Suframa. I’m just depending on the agenda, because I’m still organizing the government”,

Alckmin said.

In addition to this agenda, sustainable development in the Amazon promised during the campaign can be discussed. During his visit in August 2022, Lula stated that he intends to explore the region responsibly, opening space for scientists and researchers. He also promised that Suframa will be preserved, aiming at a “collective gain”, according to the president.
