The granting of the Ruy Araújo Medal represents public recognition of Law’s efforts and achievements
This Friday (7), the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam) paid homage to Thomas Law, president of the Brazil-China Cultural Institute (Ibrachina), for his contribution to promoting cultural exchange between the two countries. Proposed by Deputy João Luiz (Republicans), the granting of the Ruy Araújo Medal represents public recognition of the efforts and achievements of Law, who has played a key role in strengthening ties between Brazil and China and in his recent contributions to the Amazon.
In December last year, Thomas Law received the title of citizen of Amazonas for his great contribution during the oxygen crisis in Manaus, which took place in January 2021, when he organized the delivery of more than 1,700 cylinders of oxygen to the city.
João Luiz said at the time that Thomas Law “mobilized companies and the Chinese Embassy to send inputs, especially oxygen cylinders, quickly, saving hundreds of lives, lives that he did not even know about”. The deputy, who chaired the Special Session, took the opportunity to formalize the creation of the Brazil – Amazonas – China Parliamentary Front, approved by Aleam last Thursday (6).
“I want to thank the president of Aleam, Roberto Cidade (União Brasil), for the speed with which the proposal was processed and made official. The Front’s main objectives are to promote rapprochement between peoples, through dialogue, economic, cultural, commercial and technological cooperation, in addition to carrying out parliamentary missions with the aim of bringing the two countries closer together”,
declared.
João Luiz said he was very happy with the creation of the Front and with its strength, bringing together several parliamentarians and local businessmen.
“Governor Wilson Lima also welcomes this initiative and we hope that this partnership will grow even stronger”,
stated.
The honoree stated that receiving the highest honor from the state of Amazonas is a great event in his life.
“Our work involves strengthening economic, academic and technological partnerships between Brazil and China. Amazonas is a state known worldwide for its forest and is fundamental for the planet, due to its environmental importance. As president of the Brazil-China Coordination, I help to improve the business environment of the population of Brazil”,
he said.
Among the authorities present, the event was honored by Gustavo Igrejas Filgueiras, Executive Secretary of State for Planning at the Secretariat for Development, Science, Technology and Innovation, representing Governor Wilson Lima; Sóstenes Marchezine, National Coordinator of Brazil-China Relations of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB); Nelson Azedo, vice-president of the Federation of Industries of Amazonas (Fieam); and Emannuel Mustafá, CEO of the Federation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism of Amazonas (Fecomercio – AM).
Lawyer Thomas Law specializes in Economic Criminal Law, Civil Law and Civil Procedure, holds a PhD in Commercial Law and a Master’s in International Economic Relations Law from the Pontifical Catholic University (PUC-SP). Specialist in Civil Law and Civil Procedure from Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado (FAAP), and in Economic Criminal Law from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV).
