The senator for Amapá, Randolfe Rodrigues, presented Bill N° 3455, of 2023, to the Federal Senate, which deals with the transformation of the Oiapoque campus, of the Federal University of Amapá, into the Federal University of Fronteira Norte ((Unifron).
In the document, the parliamentarian defends the creation of new public institutions of higher education to promote the development of education in Brazilian regions and states.
“We believe that the time has come to transform the Oiapoque campus into an autonomous institution, so that even more significant advances can be made in the expansion of higher education in the state of Amapá”, said Senator Randolfe.
The parliamentarian understands that the promotion of new academic activities can contribute to the development of the region and favor the process of binational cooperation with the French overseas department, which is French Guiana.
The bill authorizes the creation of the Federal University of Fronteira Norte (Unifron) with the legal nature of an autarchy, headquarters and forum in the municipality of Oiapoque, linked to the Ministry of Education, by transforming the Oiapoque campus of Unifap, along the same lines as the project Presented by former federal deputy Jorielson Brito.
Unifron will aim to offer undergraduate and graduate higher education, develop research, extension and culture, as well as promote innovation and regional development.
The project also provides for a series of provisions on the assets, resources, administration, positions and statute of the university whose creation it seeks to authorize.
