President of Aleam demands explanations and presence of DNIT superintendent at ALEAM

The body responsible for maintaining federal highways signed a contract worth R$ 24,855,138.97 for the construction of the bridge over the Curuçá River

Manaus (AM) – President of the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), state deputy Roberto Cidade (UB), once again demanded clarification from the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT), in Amazonas, regarding the recovery works of the BR-319 stretches which were impacted by the collapse of two bridges, one over the Autaz Mirim River and the other over the Curuçá River, last year. Invitations to the DNIT were sent to the agency’s regional superintendent, Luciano Moreira de Souza Filho.

“The DNIT superintendent was invited to provide clarifications in the State Assembly twice, but did not attend and did not send a representative to report on the highway recovery contracts and on the deadlines for the execution of the works. This is a sensitive topic and it is regrettable that it is treated in this way by the competent body. We reinforce the invitation for DNIT to come to the Assembly to explain what is happening with the contracts and works. DNIT needs to respect the Legislative Power and, above all, the population of Amazonas, which is suffering”, reinforced the deputy president.

DNIT is the body responsible for maintaining federal highways across the country and, just last year, signed a contract worth R$ 24,855,138.97, with waiver of bidding, to carry out the services for building the bridge over the Curuca river. The contract provides for the demolition of structures, removal of rubble and construction of new works. According to the official publication of the contract signed by the superintendent of DNIT-AM, Luciano Moreira, the purpose is “the hiring of emergency services for the reconstruction of the Bridge over the Curuçá River”.

According to Cidade, representatives of the municipalities directly impacted by the bridge collapses, such as Autazes, Careiro Castanho, Careiro da Várzea, Nova Olinda do Norte and Manaquiri, were at Aleam in search of reinforcement in the demand for the recovery of the highway and informed that, in 30 days, at least 120,000 people travel along the BR-319. The parliamentarians also spoke about the inconvenience caused to the locations that have the highway as the main connection with the capital, Manaus, such as fuel and merchandise shortages.

“We have to hold a Public Hearing, inspect the contracts and demand agility in the execution of the works. We have to mobilize ourselves to try to solve this problem, which we know will not be solved overnight, but if you have a quality and committed company, it will carry out the necessary work in a reasonable time. We reinforce the invitation for the DNIT to come here and explain what is happening”, he reinforced.

The bridge over the Curuçá River, located at kilometer 23 of the BR-319, in the municipality of Careiro da Várzea, collapsed on September 28, 2022, leaving four dead and 14 others injured. Soon after, on October 8, the Rio Autaz Mirim bridge, at kilometer 25, also gave way, but without any injuries.

New municipalities in the Amazon

Also during the plenary session this Wednesday, 10/5, the president of Aleam stated that he is in favor of the initiative being processed in the Legislative Assembly for the creation of the Parliamentary Front for the Creation of New Municipalities. According to the parliamentarian, this would expand the investment capacity in locations that today suffer from a lack of resources.

“I am a municipalist and I am in favor of creating new municipalities in the interior of the state of Amazonas. I defend this flag because I believe that many locations that are now districts, such as Santo Antônio do Matupi, which is a district of Manicoré, would have much better quality of life if they were municipalities, as is the case in districts of Manacapuru, for example. They have large occupations and the municipalities are unable to contemplate them satisfactorily due to lack of revenue. When you create a municipality from scratch, you have more possibilities, with good management, to make them develop”, he opined.
