PF cuts way to catch coup colonels – 05/10/2023 – Bruno Boghossian

Installed inside the Planalto Palace, a reserve colonel complained about the hurdles on the way to a coup d’état. There were two weeks left before the end of the Jair Bolsonaro government when Elcio Franco, advisor to the Civil House, sent the regret to a friend of the president, via WhatsApp. “This bullshit is going to keep happening,” he said.

On the other side of the conversation was former major Ailton Barros. He spoke of putting pressure on the top of the Army, mobilizing 1,500 soldiers and convincing the Special Operations Command to arrest Minister Alexandre de Moraes. “If necessary, it will be outside the four lines,” he threatened.

The Bolsonarist machine wanted to paint the post-election coup d’état as a dream of crazy militants or a plan of rank-and-file soldiers around the former president. But you don’t have to go far to identify the names and offices of majors, colonels, generals and delegates who discussed the idea close to the center of power.

The investigation that uncovered the ex-president’s vaccination card fraud scheme cut that path. In addition to the conversation with Elcio Franco, the PF also found audio messages sent by Ailton Barros to Colonel Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro’s direct assistant.

In the recordings released to the presidential office and revealed by CNN Brasil, the former major spoke in Moraes prison on a Sunday (“as he does with everyone else”) and in a decree for a military operation to Guarantee Law and Order.

There was never any doubt that the coup d’état flourished in the lake where the big fish of Bolsonarism swam. The Minister of Justice kept the preparations for a state of emergency at home, and government generals worked to interfere with the elections.

In the inquiry into the ex-president’s vaccination card, the PF claimed to have identified “dealts to carry out a coup d’état” by “still unidentified persons”. Everything indicates that the agents will continue to pull this thread. Bolsonaro’s cell phone, seized in the investigation, should help.
