PL and Bolsonaro pressure Nunes to join the party – 05/10/2023 – Panel

The PL increased its harassment of the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), for him to join the party. Soon, members of the summits of both parties should meet to discuss the issue at a dinner.
The subject was addressed, albeit in a relaxed way, at lunch and meetings last Saturday (6) with Nunes and Jair Bolsonaro (PL), as well as leaders of the parties, in São Paulo.
As a joke, the former president told the mayor at one point that he should join his party, even to resolve doubts about how the PL will position itself in the São Paulo election next year.
According to reports, Nunes just laughed and said that he felt good in the MDB, a party to which he has been affiliated since he was 18 years old. He added that this conversation should go through Baleia Rossi, president of the party.
Federal Deputy Ricardo Salles (PL) has sought support to make his candidacy viable through the acronym and is the favorite of Bolsonaristas. The root wing of the PL, headed by the national president of the acronym Valdemar Costa Neto, has leaned towards Nunes, in whose management he participates with positions.
PL leaders have said that the party has grown a lot in recent years, with a bench of 99 deputies, and that it needs its own candidacy in the country’s largest capital next year.
In his calculations, the ticket would be completed by a name more to the right than Nunes, possibly from the MDB, if the party has someone with that profile and is willing to make the alliance. Another alternative is the Republicans, whose main name is Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (SP).
“Ricardo Nunes’s dream is to have the support of the PL, and the PL’s dream is to have Ricardo Nunes as a candidate. He would be the jewel in the crown”, says councilor Isac Félix, president of the PL’s São Paulo directory.
Baleia Rossi, president of the MDB, says that the conversation between PL and Nunes about affiliation, if it took place, shows that Nunes’ candidacy is being seen as competitive.
The mayor of São Paulo denies that the matter was discussed on Saturday.
