Prerogativas expresses ‘full support’ for Dino’s nomination – 11/29/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

The Prerogativas group, made up of jurists, lawyers, public defenders and retired members of the Public Ministry, prepared this Wednesday (29) a note in which they express “full support” for the appointment of the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, for a vacancy in the STF (Supreme Federal Court).

The name of the head of the department was announced by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) on Monday (27). The decision was made after two months of waiting.

If approved by the senators, Dino will replace minister Rosa Weber on the court, who retired at the end of September, days before turning 75, the maximum age to hold the position.

In a note, Prerogativas praises the professional, academic and political trajectory of the current Minister of Justice. Credentials such as that of a Labor Court official, lawyer and first place in the competition for federal judge, in 1994, are highlighted.

“Flávio Dino perfectly meets the criteria of renowned legal knowledge, in addition to boasting the rare experience of a prominent character in functions linked to the three powers, a factor that gives him a broad and in-depth view of the institutional functioning of the country”, states the legal group .

“The members of the Prerogatives group demonstrate full support for the eminent President of the Republic in this nomination to the Federal Supreme Court, with the certainty that, in the Praetorium Excelso, Dr. Flávio Dino will know how to handle the major issues that are submitted to him”, he continues.

“The Prerrogativas Group, a collective that brings together public and private lawyers, public defenders, university professors, retired magistrates and retired members of the Public Ministry, comes out to publicly express their full support for the nomination, by the President of the Republic, of the name of Flávio Dino de Castro e Costa for the vacancy on the Federal Supreme Court left by the retirement of Minister Rosa Weber.

He was a public servant, as a Labor Court employee and a lawyer.

First placed in the competition for federal judge, in 1994, Flávio Dino was a member of the federal judiciary for 12 years, having been President of the Association of Federal Judges of Brazil – AJUFE in the 2000-2002 biennium. He was also the first general secretary of the National Council of Justice upon its installation in 2005.

In 2006, Flávio Dino left the federal judiciary, returning to law and becoming prominent in national political life. Thus, he was a Federal Deputy, Governor of Maranhão twice, Senator of the Republic and Minister of State for Justice and Public Security, having always clearly demonstrated his deep commitment to Democracy and Human Rights, founding values ​​of the Constitution and the Republic.
