Bolsonaro is spared about possible coup plans in acts of 8/1

Report points to Bolsonaro as just a provocative leader and belligerent stance responsible for increasing the country’s political division

Brasilia DF) – Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was cited 40 times in the final report of the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) on Anti-Democratic Acts. According to the document, the former head of the Executive was responsible for adding elements that heightened the political division in the country.

The reading of the report began at 9 am this Wednesday (29) in the plenary of the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District. The text will be voted on to be approved by the parliamentary house.

Despite the citations, Bolsonaro is acquitted. According to the document, there is no solid evidence to support the allegation that the former president planned or executed, in the acts of January 8, 2023, a coup d’état in Brazil.

Elsewhere, it is highlighted that Bolsonaro adopted a belligerent stance, provocative leadership, and aggressive rhetoric throughout his government. The former president is also accused of creating a narrative to discredit the elections in Brazil. “Systematically reiterating the possibility of fraud in electronic voting machines”, reinforced the text.

“The former president announced in one of his lives that he would present evidence of his accusations, which never happened. On another occasion, he distorted information from a police investigation by the Federal Police, incorrectly claiming that the Superior Electoral Court had recognized a ‘hacker invasion of the ballot boxes’”, he exemplified.

In progress in the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District (CLDF), the Commission is investigating the attacks against democracy on January 8th. As Metrópoles said, the CPI’s final report had 444 pages and 136 defendants. The text also includes the crime for which each person must respond, in the understanding of the CPI, and the proof of the criminal action.

The indictees make up four main groups. Those who instigated people to participate in the acts, those who financed coup plotters, those who were silent and those who were actually in Praça dos Três Poderes on that date carrying out violent actions to annul the results of the elections.

The CPI on Anti-Democratic Acts became historic in the House and in the DF. In progress for nine months, the Commission heard 30 people between February and November. Testimonies were collected from authorities, such as former ministers, generals, members of the top leadership of the DF Military Police (PMDF) and the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), and key figures in the coup attempt, such as leaders and financiers.
