Polled by PSDB, Matarazzo calls for a hard line in Cracolândia – 15/11/2023 – Panel

Listed by the PSDB to be a candidate for Mayor of São Paulo, former secretary and former councilor Andrea Matarazzo (PSD) participated, on the 26th, in an event to support the candidacy of Kim Kataguiri (União Brasil) and, in his speech , defended hard-line measures to deal with Cracolândia.

In his speech, to the applause of the MBL (Movimento Brasil Livre) audience, Matarazzo described his actions in the center, such as installing “anti-beggar benches”, closing drug hotels with bricks and washing the streets with water several times a day. He said he was called “truculent”, “hygienist” and “Nazi”.

“Residents cannot be held hostage by drug traffickers. […] We have to deal with it within a reality scenario, without wanting to be a good guy. You end up becoming a good guy in the eyes of the population. […] There’s no point in complaining, you have to think that the collective prevails over the individual”, he said in the lecture.

When contacted by the Panel, Matarazzo says that he was approached by the PSDB to join, but that there were no new conversations and that the issue is undefined. “This cannot be defined from one day to the next. For now, I am in the PSD and in my company, carrying on with my private life”, he states

Former deputy mayor of Sé, Matarazzo also says that the management of Ricardo Nunes (MDB) has many problems. “We need to put São Paulo on track. I’ve already done it and I know it can be done.”

Asked about supporting Kim’s candidacy, he replied that he supported “everything positive in the pro-São Paulo debate”. At the event, Matarazzo ended his speech by saying that the deputy was on the right path.

Matarazzo says to the Panel that his speech was not right-wing and that the city’s problems have no ideology. “Homeless people want a solution, they don’t want mercy,” he adds.
