Police carry out operation against violent fans – 05/06/2023 – Sport

The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro carried out, this Monday (5), a search and seizure action at the home of fans suspected of violent acts on days of football matches.

28 warrants were carried out with the objective of seizing weapons, telephones and material that could confirm the premeditated involvement of members of organized supporters in the fights.

In addition to several truncheons and brass knuckles, simulacra of weapons were found, such as an airsoft rifle. The names of the people who had their homes searched were not released.

According to a note from the Civil Police, “the operation aims to combat sports intolerance, which leads to repeated cases of damage to public and private property, serious bodily injuries and even deaths in violent clashes between the various carioca fan clubs” .

Still according to the corporation, more than 200 hours of footage and more than 80 testimonies were analyzed, with the objective of individualizing and identifying the main people involved.

The operation, called Discord, is carried out three months after the game for the Carioca championship between Flamengo and Vasco. On that day, fights took place around the Maracanã stadium, as well as in other parts of the state. Two people died as a result of the violence.

The investigation into the deaths is under the responsibility of the Homicide Police Station. The action this Monday (5) was coordinated by the DRCI (Delegation for the Repression of Computer Crimes) with warrants issued by the Special Court for Fans.
