It is the first time that the draft found in the home of former Justice Minister Anderson Torres has been linked to the coup plot investigated by the Federal Police. In his statement given on March 1, former Army commander Marco Antônio Freire Gomes stated that the document was presented by former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in a meeting with the heads of the Armed Forces, in December 2022.

The content of General Freire Gomes’ testimony was made public on Friday (15). Minister Alexandre de Moraes’ decision removed the confidentiality of the testimonies of 27 people, including the former Air Force commander, Carlos Baptista Júnior, who gave a detailed account of what had happened behind closed doors, implicating others under investigation.

The statements reinforce the evidence that the PF was collecting in the investigation — which has closed the siege around the former president. On Friday, Bolsonaro’s lawyer Fabio Wajngarten criticized Freire Gomes, saying that the general has a “selective memory”, for telling the police that he did not remember the date of a meeting with the former president.

This Monday’s episode (18) discusses how the testimonies made public last week reinforce the investigation of a coup plot to keep Bolsonaro in power and explains what the investigation still needs to demonstrate. The podcast interviews Cézar Feitoza and Fabio Serapião, reporters from Sheet in Brasilia.

The audio program is published on Spotify, a streaming service partner of Sheet in the initiative and which specializes in music, podcast and video. You can listen to the episode by clicking above. To access the app, simply register for free.

Café da Manhã is published from Monday to Friday, always at the beginning of the day. The episode is presented by journalists Gabriela Mayer and Gustavo Simon, produced by Carolina Moraes and Laila Mouallem and sound editing by Thomé Granemann.
