President Lula (PT) said that Ricardo Lewandowski will have the autonomy to renew the team at the Ministry of Justice, but that the two will talk “to see who stays, who leaves and who enters” the body. The former minister of the Federal Supreme Court was officially in charge of the department this Thursday (11).

Lewandowski will succeed Flávio Dino, appointed to the STF, but the change will only take effect on February 1st. In an interview with the Mônica Bergamo column, the future minister said that he was called up “for a mission and a country project”. The indications reinforce the rapprochement with the Judiciary through which Lula hopes to guarantee stability in this term.

The jurist will be the first retired STF judge to join the federal government in 17 years. Seen as a moderate progressive, he was a representative of the guarantor wing in the court, where he had a history of decisions favorable to the PT. This Thursday, the president highlighted that Lewandowski’s arrival at the ministry is a personal choice.

This Friday’s Café da Manhã (12) analyzes what the choice of Ricardo Lewandowski for the Ministry of Justice represents and discusses how it and the appointment of Flávio Dino to the Supreme Court affect the government. The podcast interviews Bruno Boghossian, columnist for Sheet.

The audio program is published on Spotify, a streaming service partner of Sheet in the initiative and which specializes in music, podcast and video. You can listen to the episode by clicking above. To access the app, simply register for free.

Café da Manhã is published from Monday to Friday, always at the beginning of the day. The episode is presented by journalists Gabriela Mayer and Gustavo Simon, produced by Carolina Moraes, Laila Mouallem and Victor Lacombe. Sound editing is by Thomé Granemann.
