Since the January 8 coup attacks, Justice has acted to identify and detain those involved in acts of violence, which includes those who participated in the depredation of the headquarters of the three Powers and authorities suspected of leniency with the coup.
The arrests began on the same day. And the number of detainees surpassed a thousand the next day, after the dismantling of the Bolsonarist camp in front of the Army headquarters in Brasília.
The number of suspects and the amount of material to be analyzed pose challenges to investigative bodies and difficulties for the work of Justice. The Federal Police and the Civil Police of the Federal District, for example, have operated in a mutirão system, with standard forms for questioning suspects. Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court, even delegated to federal and district judges the task of holding custody hearings with detainees.
