This Friday (23), Novo em Folha publishes another episode of the podcast Americas. This is a news, interview and analysis program on political and social events in the region, carried out by journalists Sylvia Colombo, columnist for Sheetand Sebastián Fest, correspondent in Buenos Aires for the Spanish newspaper “El Mundo”.

The podcast, broadcast in Spanish, is a good opportunity for journalists and others interested in better understanding the region and learning more about the language spoken in almost all of Latin America, with Brazil as one of the exceptions.

In this episode, the two journalists talk about the resurgence of three important political figures on the regional scene in search of a new role.

One of them is former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, who nominated his candidate for the August elections. It will be former minister and former congresswoman Luisa González. She will face seven other candidates. Those with the best chance, besides her, are indigenous leader Yaku Pérez and outsider Jan Topic, an admirer of Salvadoran Nayib Bukele’s security policies.

The other is former Uruguayan president José “Pepe” Mujica, who took “his share of the blame” for the country’s water crisis. Mujica says that there was a lack of infrastructure works and that this also happened to his successors. He pointed out that something must be done to contain the shortage of drinking water that has been worsening due to climate change.

Finally, Colombo and Fest discuss the attempt to return to Spanish politics by José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, who ruled the European country from 2004 to 2011. His reappearance on the electoral scene _Spain goes to the polls in July_ also reinforces ties with the Latin left -American, which maintains fluid relations both with the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party) and with Podemos.

The Americas podcast brings, every week, three topics for debate, usually with material from its own investigation and interviews with protagonists of the news, such as presidents, candidates, chancellors and analysts.

The graphic part of the project was created by the Thema studio.
