President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) canceled the meeting he was to have with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, which would take place this Friday night (23) in Paris. The Saudi is named by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights as responsible for the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.
The cancellation of the meeting took place in the middle of the afternoon of this Friday (23) after having generated criticism from the international community, since the Saudi leader would have played an “essential role in a campaign of repression of dissidents” against the country’s government. Lula would be honored by bin Salman. The Presidency of the Republic, however, did not detail the reason.
More details of the canceled meeting and the trip to Europe should be explained during a press conference to be held by the president this Saturday morning (24th) before flying back to Brazil.
