The objective of the project is to maintain a level of healthy and equal competitiveness for all athletes.
Manaus (AM) — This Monday (10), Councilor Roberto Sabino’s (Podemos) PL was deliberated, which determines the biological sex of sports competitors as the exclusive criterion for defining gender in sports competitions held in Manaus.
The aim of the project is to maintain a healthy and equal level of competitiveness for all athletes, as it is known that physical and biological characteristics are determinants such as strength, endurance, motor coordination, agility, balance and speed are factors that interfere in the question of transgender athletes who compete in sports that are not their natural biological gender.
“We live in a plural and free country, just as in sports we have a space to express thoughts and convictions. But when we enter the sports field, the physical and biological characteristics are decisive, changing some bodily and physiological requirements in competitions, mainly when it comes to strength, resistance, speed, among others. We can’t deny that biologically speaking, men have some physical advantages and we can’t admit that these criteria hinder and disturb sportswomen. I reinforce that this PL consists of maintaining the right of everyone, and especially women, to compete with each other more fairly in sports”
said Roberto Sabino.
This Bill does not seek to deny any right of transgender athletes to participate in sports competitions, but rather to inhibit injustices and disadvantages among competitors and bring more equality with regard to natural human attributes.
