PL can close with Ricardo Nunes and discard Salles in the dispute for São Paulo

The national president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, said this Monday (31) that the election for mayor of São Paulo next year has no other name to run besides Guilherme Boulos (Psol) supported by the PT and Ricardo Nunes ( MDB), with whom the party is negotiating to close an agreement.
The conversation with the current mayor, who may be a candidate for re-election, rules out the possibility of federal deputy Ricardo Salles (PL-SP) being chosen by the party for the dispute. Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) also confirmed that the party is in negotiations with Nunes.
“We are going to have the candidacy of the PT and, at least, for the time being, of Ricardo Nunes. We don’t have any new candidates with potential, we are still studying”, said Valdemar Costa Neto in an interview with CNN Brasil.
The politician says that Ricardo Nunes “has summarized the best representation of the center” in the São Paulo capital, seen as a priority for the right. “We want to win the election, São Paulo is the most important city for the country”, he added.
According to the party representative, the final decision on who will be the PL candidate will be in February of next year, and that it is Bolsonaro himself who will decide.
Despite already seeing that there is a pre-defined path on who will be the strongest forces in the municipal election next year, Costa Neto says that Boulos’ choice is not yet unanimous in the PT.
“A large PT base does not want to support Boulos. And Boulos, if elected mayor of São Paulo, he would go against Lula in 2026, I have no doubt about that”, he added.
This weekend, Bolsonaro said that the PL wants to create a thousand prefectures in next year’s municipal election, and that talks with Nunes are moving forward.
