The PGR (Attorney General of the Republic) saw evidence of corruption and misuse of resources by the former head of the operational department of the Military Police of the Federal District, Jorge Naime, arrested since February and accused of omission in the coup attacks of 8 January.

Naime was the head of the sector responsible for drawing up the security plan in the federal capital to prevent coup attacks. He was exonerated from his post after the anti-democratic acts, denounced by the PGR and is arrested after being the target of operation Lesa Pátria.

The Attorney General’s Office asked that the material that raised suspicions of corruption be sent to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the DF so that the facts could be investigated, since they have no connection with the coup attacks.

According to the PGR, in a letter signed by Deputy Attorney General Carlos Frederico Santos, these indications of corruption are related to funds from the Association of Military Police Officers of the Federal District.

The agency says that he had apparently illicit relations with another individual, named Sérgio Assis, and that he even transported R$ 1 million in cash, from São Paulo to Brasília, on his behalf.

“There are indications that Naime used the structure of the Military Police of the Federal District to promote ‘escort’ in the transport of values, as well as elements of the probable spurious origin of the resources, in addition to potential money laundering”, says the PGR.

“The movement of large amounts in cash, without corresponding declaration and in an unofficial manner, is intended to circumvent the anti-laundering monitoring mechanisms that exist permanently in the financial system, making it difficult to identify the origin, location, ownership and movement itself of values.”

Naime, who was also president of the Association of Military Police Officers of the Federal District, signed contracts with legal entities linked to Sérgio Assis for alleged advisory and marketing services.

The monthly value of the contract with the company was BRL 8,900 and, after it was signed, Naime began to receive monthly payments of BRL 8,000.

“Naime, apparently, used his position as president of the association to divert the resources raised by the entity through the contribution of his own peers”, says the PGR.

“It is also possible that the contract was a way of diverting resources that, when transferred to Naime, functioned as receipt of undue advantage due to the position.”

“In this way, in addition to the evident continuous injury –by successive payments resulting from a simulated contract– to members of the PMDF Officers’ Association, there are indications of corruption on the part of Jorge Eduardo Barreto Naime”, says the PGR.

Sought, the defense of Jorge Naime has not yet manifested itself. The report was unable to locate Sérgio Assis’ defense.
